Maternity Monday-Hospital Bag

Happy Monday!!  I’m pretty exciting to be kicking this off with something I like to call Maternity Monday. I’m going to try to post something maternity related every week, whether it’s an outfit (although I’m no “fashionista” I do enjoy my fair share of clothes and accessories) or items I found most useful during these hormonal months.

Although I’m only 26 weeks pregnant, I’ve recently been thinking about what to pack in my hospital bag.  Last time I was so unprepared!!

1) Medela Disposable Nursing Pads

After trying all the different kinds of nursing pads on the market my first time around, I am now devoted to Medela.  I give them the highest ranking for absorbing abilities and comfortable fit.

2)  Lansinoh Soothies Gel Pads

You keep these little guys in the fridge then place them on your sore breastfeeding boobs.

3) Nursing Tanks

I really liked having nursing camis in the hospital.  That way, I wouldn’t have to worry about removing a shirt to get to my nursing bra.  I was also wearing a robe most of the time so it was easy to just have a tank top underneath.

4)  Nursing Bras

When I wasn’t wearing a nursing tank, a nursing bra was definitely necessary.  I like this one by Gilligan & O’Malley.

5)  Toiletry Bag

Fill this with your basic essentials, including lip balm because it gets really dry in hospitals (Burt’s Bees is my absolute favorite) and deodorant since hospitals temperature is forever changing from hot to cold so you might go from sweaty to shivery in minutes.  I also brought travel sized shampoo, conditioner, soap, and lotion.  That shower after my c-section was the most amazing shower of my life, and it definitely helped having my own stuff.  I also appreciated having some makeup so that I could feel a little bit more like myself.

6) Boppy

Who doesn’t love their Boppy??

7) Clothes for Baby

Whatever you want to bring, bring it! I used to think that you weren’t allowed to dress baby in their own clothes until you went home.  I got there and discovered that’s not the case.

8) Camera/Video Recorder plus lots and lots of extra batteries

I was one of those people that only have about six pictures of my hospital stay on my camera because we forgot batteries and our camera died!

9) A light weight robe

Like I mentioned before, the unpredictable hospital temperature and your confused hormones will have your body's temperature changing often. I liked having a light cotton robe, like this one here, so that I could close it, open it or take it off completely.

10) Comfortable Pants

These maternity lounge pants were a staple for me during pregnancy and after delivery.

11)  Comfortable Socks with Grippies

When I wasn’t wearing socks with grips on the bottom like these, I was slipping all around since the hospital wasn’t carpeted.  That’s the last thing you want to do when holding your newborn!

12)  Blankets and Pillows from home

Nothing better than the comfort of your own home.
